File parts

Parts of a print file which is which?

Before sending a file, get to know the 4 key lines — hover each item to see where it sits on a real card.

Parts of a print file

Crop marks Crop marks

Black ticks at the corners marking the real cut line — the cutter follows these.

Bleed line Bleed · 3 mm

Area where colour/artwork “overflows” the edge by ~3 mm so a slightly off cut leaves no white edge — anything past this line is trimmed away.

Trim line / final piece Trim line

The finished size after cutting — what you receive. It may shift slightly left/right or up/down.

Safe area Safe area

Keep key text/logos (e.g. the INKIPRINT logo, slogan) inside this box — not too close to the edge, so nothing gets trimmed.

Resolution & formats

The right resolution & file format

Sharp or pixelated comes down to DPI — and each file extension suits a different kind of job.

PDF

.pdf

Most recommended

Embeds fonts + images fully, looks right anywhere. Export as Press Quality / PDF/X.

AI

.ai

Vector artwork

The original Illustrator file, great for logos and die-cuts. Remember to “embed fonts” first.

PNG

.png

Image / transparency

Must be 300 DPI+, supports transparent backgrounds — great for die-cut stickers.

PSD

.psd

Retouching

Layered Photoshop file. Flatten, set CMYK mode and 300 DPI before sending.

Read before sending AI-made artwork

The “AI” we want is .ai — not an AI-generated image

Lots of people now design cards with AI (Midjourney, ChatGPT, etc.) — beautiful on screen, but usually unusable in print, because AI gives you a “finished image” with paper grain, shadows and texture baked in. It’s only a mockup, not a printable file.

AI images usually look like this
  • Low-res 72 DPI JPG/PNG in RGB mode
  • Paper grain, shadow and edges baked in — can’t be removed
  • Blurry or misspelled text that can’t be edited
  • No bleed for the real print size
The right print-ready file
  • Vector .ai / .pdf, or an image at 300 DPI+
  • CMYK colour mode with fonts embedded
  • Texture/coating chosen from the shop, not baked in
  • 3 mm bleed around the artwork edge

Use AI to brainstorm all you like — but before printing, rebuild it as a fresh vector file, or send the source image and we’ll prep the artwork for print.

Prep your file so it comes out perfect

The two things customers ask about most — the bleed margin, and screen colour vs print colour.

Bleed · 3 mm

The bleed line

Extend the artwork edge out by 3 mm so the cut never bites into your design. Without bleed, a trimmed piece can show a white edge or shift by 1–2 mm.

Has bleed123

  2. 2Bleed margin — cut varies by 1–2 mm
  3. 3Safe area — keep 2 mm from the trim

  2. 2The cut may shift slightly
RGB vs CMYK

Why don’t colours match my screen?

Screens show colour in RGB (light) while printing uses CMYK (ink), so results differ slightly and can’t match 100% — and every screen is calibrated a little differently too.

RGBRed · Green · Blue
on-screen colour — mixing gets brighter
CMYKCyan · Magenta · Yellow · Black
print ink — mixing gets darker

We calibrate our screens as close to the CMYK print standard as possible and reference an ISO-certified Spectrodensitometer for colour values.

If colour matters, we recommend a printed proof before committing to a large run.
Die-cut

Die-cuts that trim to the edge

Die-cut work (cut to shape) should be designed with an edge margin so you don’t lose white edges or tiny details. Pick a safe option and you’ll get crisp results with no white rim.

 Artwork
Cut to edge
White border
Colour bleeds out
Match background

Avoid “cut to edge” — a white border, colour bleed-out or background match is safer.

Choose “white border” or “colour bleeds out”. Avoid cutting exactly to the artwork edge — the cut may leave a white rim and can’t catch tiny details.
Before you order

Things to check before ordering

Please read every point so your work comes out just right. Tap a heading for details.

Printing involves many technical factors, so colour can vary between runs. For high accuracy we offer colour matching with standard instruments.

  • Reprinting a file we printed beforeEven with the same file, each run can differ by 3–5% due to technical factors.
  • Want it close to before (±2%)Colour matching with an ISO-standard Spectrodensitometer, 50 THB / time.
  • Matching another shop / different materialCan’t compare directly — each shop uses different machines, materials and colour tuning. For matching, 300 THB first time (±2% accuracy).

Some products need extra care to keep ink from peeling or sticking to the surface.

For leather / PU leather or tacky surfaces such as bags and shoes, we recommend an extra laminate coat to stop ink from sticking to your item.

We do our very best on both colour and cutting to match the source file as closely as possible, but both carry a tolerance under print-industry standards.

  • ColourIf tone matters, we recommend a sample before the real run — even after approving a sample, the real print may vary ±slightly, but won’t stray far.
  • CuttingCutting can shift/overlap by 1–2 mm — normal under print-industry standards.
The company reserves the right to decline responsibility for dissatisfaction with tone and for cutting variance within standard tolerance, if no real sample was ordered or the file wasn’t prepared per guidelines.
Verifying copyright is the file sender’s responsibility. The company acts only as a printing provider and accepts no liability for any copyright infringement.

Work using cream as a component can vary due to technical limits and differences in how each screen displays it.

Intended

Yellowish

Greenish

Example cream tones that may drift from what you intended

  • Tone may shiftThe intended cream may drift toward other tones, or come out lighter/darker than expected.
  • Varies each runThere may be differences between runs, or on the next reprint of the same file.
Tip: for peace of mind on tone, order a real printed sample before production (reprinting the same file carries a 50 THB/time matching fee, ±2%).
If no sample is ordered: we print based only on our shop screen and reserve the right to decline responsibility for tone.

Files with a frame, or that must sit perfectly centred, are the hardest to control — the whole piece can look skewed.

1. Design with bleed — the red line is the trim, background runs past it to avoid white edges
2. After cutting, the frame may skew slightly
3. Keep key elements away from the edge to avoid trimming and 1–2 mm overlap

The red line is the trim — bleed and edge margins keep framed work straight and balanced

  • Frame / centred work may skewCan overlap on one or both sides, within the 1–2 mm print standard.
  • Double-sided printsThe back may not line up with the front and can skew/overlap.
  • Frames near the edge risk trimmingThe closer the frame sits to the edge, the more obvious any skew.
Please design to avoid skew — allow for bleed, don’t place the frame against the edge, and avoid thin frames around the artwork.
